Feb 3 Philosophy Cafe Topic: Names and Words

We'll be discussing several topics related "Names and Words" for our February 3 2020 session of Philosophy Cafe in Forest Lawn.

We'll be meeting at the Activity Centre building (located in the northeastern corner) on the Bob Bahan recreational centre site, just a few blocks away from the Alex Community Food Centre.

Bob Bahan address: 4812 - 14 Avenue SE Calgary.

Names and Words:
  • Is it important to learn to say foreign names?
  • What kind of nick names are okay to use?
  • What kind of jokes are funny?
  • Is it more important to use particular words or to use a particular tone when speaking?
  • Sticks and stones can break our bones and can words really hurt us?
These are some of the ideas we'll put up for discussion on Monday, February 3, 2020.

We'll also go over a topic list we created during our January session. We have some great topics to start with in 2020 - all suggested by participants in January! We'll still need to clarify a few topic suggestions and add a few topics to create a well-rounded list of things to discuss in 2020.

Welcome to YYC Philosophy Cafe blog

Hi all,

Welcome to the blog.

The purpose is to post study tips, vocabulary tidbits, word hoard details, and some additional topic points here for those who frequent our Philosophy Cafe discussion group in Forest Lawn...

Sometimes information on an author, educator, person of interest will be placed here or a reminder of a particular theory or approach to educational or community development material will go here.

If you have something you'd like to see here, please say so during Philosophy Cafe, ask a co-facilitator, or email a suggestion and your ideas will be considered.

Have fun!
